Finals Week

Columbia, Missouri

Monday of finals week. Hell week. The final stretch. I'm sitting here, contemplating my lack of sleep and some incredibly unhealthy eating habits of the last few days. Welcome to the end of freshman year.

Currently at the University of Missouri, I'm sure the look of my messy room and baggy eyes closely resemble most other college students' during this period in the somehow-standardized educational calendar. The year is coming to a close, and as the last days tick by, I can feel my motivation evaporating. Four days left and I'm out of here.

10 days left until I'm out of this country.

I made this blog to share my travel experiences and tips, but I'd be lying if I said the journey begins on the plane. It starts right here in my dorm room on campus, with a few empty to-go containers scattered about and zero socks left in my drawers. I haven't worn a pair in two days. Glamorous, huh?

But that's the truth: this is the starting point. I'm just a 19-year-old with zero laundry detergent and zero motivation to get off my couch. Here I am, too lazy to make the tea I so desperately want because that would require walking four feet to my electric kettle. Which, I'll let you know, is banned in the dorms -- I'm also starting you off early with information on my oh-so rebellious streak.

And hey -- I deserve to feel this way. After today's 7:30 a.m. economics final and just three hours of sleep, I have earned the right to veg out. Currently happy, studious, and unapologetically lazy, I am just the epitome of college at its rawest.

Columbia, Missouri. That's where I am, and that's where I'll be the next four years. But for 31 days in between, I'll be backpacking through Thailand and Laos with one of my best friends in the entire world. I don't know how life could get any better than this sleepless, sock-less, slightly delirious picture I just painted for you, but, you know, I have faith.

With a lot of excitement and a little sarcasm along the way, I can't wait to start this adventure. And I guess I already have.
